The reason I started the peace-a-day project can best be summed up with a simple cartoon that my sister-in-law passed along - it was (loosely translated from memory) a woman is talking to a friend, saying "my desire to remain informed is in direct conflict with my desire to be at peace."
If the old adage "ignorance is bliss" holds any weight, then I suppose the opposite may hold some truth as well. It certainly appears true for me, at least in regard to being well informed in today's world. Thus, the project was born. And the benefits are many -
I get to "create" peace everyday.
I get to honor others - those who are most affected, those who are truly sacrificing, and/or have sacrificed - our veterans.
I'm required to focus my attention on what is important to me - peace, both inner and worldly.
I get to utilize my scrap glass.
I get a yard full of spinning, twirling, sparkling peace signs (until you buy them, anyway!)
Like prayer flags, I imagine they are sending forth good will and love and peace;
catching my eye throughout the day, reminding me to be at peace, reminding me to write my representatives in the house and in the senate, reminding me that it begins within, reminding me, as Gandhi did, to "be the change".
